Get the first – mover advantage with RVE

Our training programme for the Revised GRE® General test is specifically designed to suit the needs of Indian graduates. Enrol today, it's all you'll ever need to study Graduate/ MBA / Fellowship programs abroad.

The test pattern

The revised GRE® General test has 5 sections:

Analytical Writing (AW): It still consists of two topics: Issue & Argument. However, unlike earlier, the two topics are followed by a question each and the test taker is asked to respond specifically to the question. The time limit for the Issue topic is reduced to 30 mins from 45 mins, and the time limit for the Argument topic has been retained as 30 mins. Also, for the Issue topic, there will be only one topic rather than a choice of 2 topics.

Verbal Reasoning (VR) (2 sections): Instead of one VR section of 30 questions with a time limit of 30 mins, there are 2 VR sections with 20 questions each and a time limit of 30 mins for each section.

Antonyms and analogies questions have been removed from the test, so there are no questions that test vocabulary out of context.
Sentence completion questions have been replaced by Text Completion questions that test the candidate's ability to interpret, evaluate and reason from what he/she has read. Text Completion questions test this ability by omitting crucial words from short passages, requiring the candidate to fill the blanks by selecting words or phrases.
There is a new type of question called the Sentence Equivalence question that tests the ability to reach a conclusion about how a sentence should be completed while also focusing on the meaning of the whole sentence. A sentence has a blank with a choice of 6 words. The test taker has to select two words either of which when put in the blank, give the completed sentence the same meaning.

There are more Reading Comprehension questions on the revised test (the proportion has increased from around 35% to around 50%), including new types of questions, such as selecting multiple correct answer choices instead of just one, or highlighting a sentence within a reading passage to answer a question.

Quantitative Reasoning (QR) (2 sections): Instead of one QR section of 28 questions with a time limit of 45 mins, there are two QR sections of 20 questions each with a time limit of 35 mins for each section.

There is increased emphasis on data interpretation and real-life scenarios. New multiple-choice questions have been added which include some that have more than one correct answer, requiring the candidate to select all of the correct answers from the choices provided. Some multiple-choice questions have more than the traditional choice set of 5 choices. There is a new question type - Numeric Entry, that requires the candidate to enter the answer in a box instead of selecting an answer from a list. An on-screen calculator for use in this section reduces the emphasis on computation.

GMAT Coaching Program

How have we designed our course at RVE ?

When you register for the GMAT® exam you will receive a test preparation kit which comprises of 2 full-length practice tests. In addition there is a host of preparatory material available in the market, by way of coaching manuals and CDs.

However, a programme like ours is the most appropriate supplement to your preparation. Over the years we have helped a large number of students with their preparation for exams like the CAT, GRE® and TOEFL iBT®, focusing on the areas of Writing skills, Reasoning, Quantitative ability and Verbal ability. We have a good idea of the areas of strength and weakness in our graduates and young working people. As such, we have prepared our course content and practice material, and have planned our classroom sessions, taking this into account.

For instance, considerable attention is paid to Analytical Writing, since this is an area where guidance and practice really helps. In the Verbal ability area, while we do pay attention to Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning – we focus equally on proficiency with standard English, so as to help you improve in error identification and in correct and precise presentation. Moreover, improved ability with the elements of standard English also helps you in the Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning areas. In the Quantitative ability area, while attention is paid to the revision of mathematical concepts to help in Problem Solving, equal attention is also paid to the careful application of these concepts, along with reasoning, in the area of Data Sufficiency.

In the classroom sessions you will be provided with a combination of inputs, by way of explanation, practice exercises, and discussion. It will be an intensive course of about 50plus classes each of 11/2 to 2 hours duration - spread over 10 to 15 weeks.

The study material that will be provided covers all areas, including AW practice. Apart from evaluating your performance in class, we will also encourage you to mail in your doubts for clarification, and essays for evaluation.

We will also assist you in that most important part of your application for admission – the Statement of Purpose (SOP). Apart from providing classroom inputs, we will also encourage you to mail in your SOPs (in various stages of progress) so that we can help you with them.

IELTS

IELTS training is carried out on a comprehensive scale and is in-depth. Batches are formed on roll-on basis. To introduce to the candidates the pattern of the IELTS exam, they are put through an orientation, which explains the details of the IELTS exam, before they join the rest of the class either on week ends or on weekdays. It also gives detailed information about length of passages, content of dialogues, accents heard, kinds of questions, marks allotted, time available, band score, etc. Samples of the answer scripts for Listening, Reading and Writing are also provided. The students are also given ‘take-home’ material to build up their lexical resource as required for the Writing and Speaking modules.

The candidates are trained in all the four modules on a daily basis in both the weekday and the weekend batches. During the training period, the class listens to the recordings and reads the reading passages together in the stipulated time. The faculty explains the answers at the end of the session and helps sort out individual problems. Reading, and Listening sections are done as daily tests. Writing and Speaking sections of the test are done under personalized supervision of the faculty in charge. Each student is given performance feedback at the end of each section. The candidates are also given feedback on their writing Task I and II as well in the form of remarks on Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. They are also provided with sample answers for writing which helps them improve. The Speaking section is dealt with during training, with the Cue Card section alone being different for each candidate, on a daily basis.

We also conduct 5 mock tests for IELTS .We provide the students with headsets to simulate the experience of the actual test. The tests are evaluated in the same way as in the actual IELTS exam

TOEFL

30 highly interactive sessions are conducted over approximately 45 – 50 days. The highlight of these sessions is that they not only prepare you for the TOEFL® iBT, they also give you the confidence to communicate better in everyday life.

The breakup of these 30 classes is as follows:

The first 3 classes focus on Basic language and accent skills, similar sounding words (homophones) and on common idioms and phrases. In these classes familiarity with the various American accents will be developed in addition to a focus on language use.

For the Reading Comprehension section 6 classes will be conducted. As is the case with all
RVE courses, we will start with the basics, move to practice exercises and end with practice tests. All types of questions that you are likely to see in the TOEFL ® iBT such as “identify the most suitable heading for the given passage” or meanings of words, or pronoun references, will be covered in these classes.

To train you for the Listening section of the TOEFL® iBT, we have 6 classes, all of which will be conducted with the aid of (Audio) CDs.

Speaking is perhaps the section that most students are wary of. We have 8 classes over which we will prepare you for this section. There are a total of six speaking tasks on the TOEFL® iBT and we have one class dedicated for the understanding and practice of each of these tasks. The last two classes are revisions or mini tests. Each student will have the opportunity to speak in class and will get feedback from a specially trained faculty. Audio CDs are used in class for most of these sessions.

We have 7 classes dedicated to the writing section of the TOEFL® iBT. We will start form the basics of writing, have one class on functional grammar and 5 classes for the two tasks that you will encounter in the TOEFL® iBT. In these classes, you will actually write essays in class and will receive feedback on your performance from specially trained faculty. Specially developed audio CDs aid the faculty in some of these classes.

We are confident that this is the best and the most comprehensive TOEFL® iBT programme and that you will benefit immensely from your decision to join RVE
